There is a wide choice of education degrees and education courses around the world. You can study a Bachelor of Education, and be qualified to teach children from kindergarten to Year 12 at High School. Or you can specialise - teach special needs children, teach English as a foreign language, teach adults or early childhood education. Make sure the education studies you take will be recognised in your own country. You may need to take a school placement before your qualify, or a practical assessment of your teaching skills. Some students take up post-graduate teaching studies after completing their first degree. If you have a Bachelor of Science, for example, a Master of Education will enable you to teach that subject. Education studies can lead to a rich and rewarding career. Seeing a child learn to add, helping a non-English speaker become fluent, discovering a student's hidden talents - the role of a teacher in todays society is increasingly important. And an international perspective of education will only make you a better teacher. Learning and teaching are at the core of human existence. And good teachers are in demand at every level - from pre-school and high school students to corporate trainers and special needs teachers. |
