The Internet is giving students more access to learning than ever before. And now, many universities are offering students the option of taking courses and earning degrees online.

USC provides a distance education program through the Independent Learning office, offering courses from history to music. Independent learning courses are self-paced, independent study classes that students may take for academic credit.

Department of Education: Online Education Beats Classroom
An interesting study from none other than the US Department of Education says that students using online education actually perform better than those who just learn in the classroom. The findings are all the more intriguing, considering the source. The study examined a number of other studies on the subject to reach its conclusions. Online education programs should be pleased with the results.

Early Childhood: Where Learning Begins
It's a cool day. A mother is walking her children around the neighbourhoods. They are all wearing hats and coats. The toddler jumps and runs; then stops to pick up an acorn. A squirrel runs by and climbs up the tree. They all watch and then the toddler imitates the squirrel's walk. A car is parked nearby. The children see a picture of a crab on the license plate. In a minute they are at the corner where the sign says STOP. They cross the street and put a letter in the mailbox and then walk up the street to buy some fruit at the grocery store.
